If your BMI is 35 or greater with an obesity-related medical problem or BMI greater than 40 regardless of any medical problems, the National Institute of Health states that a weight-loss of 5 to 7 percent may improve your health and quality of life, and may prevent weight-related health problems, such as Type-2 diabetes.
