Glossary
Laparoscopy: Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure whereby a surgeon gains access to the abdominal cavity by way of small incisions in the abdominal wall. The small incisions result in less pain, shorter hospitalization, a faster recovery, and fewer complications than open operations. Sometimes, patients may not be good candidates for laparoscopy, however, due to super-obesity (more than 350 pounds) or previous abdominal operations. I evaluate each patient carefully to discuss these issues and confirm a customized plan to ensure understanding for pre- and post-operative plans.
